Any bets on 2017 Innovation trends ?

Another few days to go before closing 2016. 2016 was a great year regarding Innovation. We have seen many technology trends evolving to real business & industry value. MR (Mixed Reality), combining Augmented & Virtual reality is now a real asset within the Digital Industry or Industry 4.0, improving 3D engineering, testing, virtual training, … The wide variety of Connected Objects offers huge opportunities to create new IOT services in all sectors of our new Digital Economy. But we have also seen in 2016 the limits of a wild Innovation with some unicorns, proving once again that technology is nothing if we don’t consider regulation, fair trade, ethics & sustainable business. Last but not least, Cybersecurity is no more an option in this new virtual, hyper connected digital world. So let’s bet that 2017 will keep this innovation pace while embedding some new great human & sustainable values ! I wish you all a wonderful end of year break !

Patrice's weekly edito

Welcome to the Innovation Newsletter #100 !!!

100 ! 100 weeks of innovation news, without any stop or holidays for the Newsletter team to offer you a continuous Innovation program. 100 weeks where we tried to apply the 7 Capgemini values to our Innovation spirit. Fun is a core value. We all aspire to work in a good vibes environment and share our passion ! So this week, we built up a special edition on IOT, one of our favorite topics and more specifically on Raspberry, to give you the opportunity to learn and play with these fantastic devices ! Team Spirit and Trust are 2 other key values. I really want to thank all contributors to these 100 Newsletters, with special thanks to Fabien Poupard, Jitesh Das & Fabien Gioe who have and are still contributing a lot to this success ! We used Boldness when we decided to launch a weekly Newsletter in January 2015 within the Applied Innovation Program created by our Global CTO Lanny Cohen. We are now more than 10.000 bold readers every week, growing since the first edition, coming from inside and outside the Group. Because, yes, we are bold enough to publicly share our passion of Innovation with our clients & partners and get feedbacks from them. Freedom, Honesty & Modesty complete the 7 values and are fully part of this weekly communication channel and global Innovation community. Firstly because we know that Freedom is the essence of fair & sustainable consulting. Secondly, because Honesty with ourselves drive well-balanced & serene behaviors with our teams and our clients. And finally because Modesty reminds us that we need to read and learn every day to keep at the spearhead of Innovation ! Again, a warm thank you all dear followers, wishing you will enjoy your 100th reading !

A real new mobile phone in 2017 ?

The last real innovation in the mobile phone market occurred in 2007 with the first Iphone. More than an innovation, this was a real disruption, designing a mobile phone to do anything else than … phoning. Over the last 10 years, we’ve been dreaming of the next radical wave, without success. Lenovo & its Motorola BU decided to create a brand new modular device with multiple new functions as projector, speaker or battery. Other industrials will bet on the high Bandwidth 5G coming soon to propose new services. Let’s see how he market will adopt it …

To Pi or not to Pi …

10 Millions ! More than 10 millions of Raspberry PI have been sold in less than 5 years ! If you used to be a geek in the last century, you remember that ZX Spectrum reached 5 M & Amstrad reached 8 M, with a target record between 12-17M for the Commodore :o). Raspberry is much more than a buzz, much more than a cheap computer, it brings to the IOT world value & intelligence. The 2 major acquisitions this week by Siemens & Samsung, (more than 12 Billions !), show once again the future footprint of IOT in the Digital Industrial World. All Industry leaders are now dreaming of the same magic asset to manage the billions of IOT devices: Adaptive Digital Industrial Platforms …

Sustainability & Values as core concepts of Digital Transformation ?

This week opened the COP22 in Marrakech (Worldwide Climate Change Conference). Most of companies have now launched their own CSR program (Corporate social responsibility) to better communicate, or act, around their active role in sustainability, ethics, fair trade or citizenship. They all know the impact of social networks empowered by clients feedbacks. They all know these values are becoming prominent for young generation & milleniums. Interesting to see that more and more Digital Transformation programs are now integrating these core values in their key success factors. Let’s hope they will become the standard …

CyberSecurty makes the headlines again ! The massive attack on 700.000 Webcams last week conducting to a huge Datacenters Deny Of Service is pointing again the major risks linked with IOT devices. Knowing that we plan between 30 & 80 billions IOT devices in coming decade, most of them deployed without any security understanding, cybersecurity issues could put the brakes on IOT growth unless we all consider security is not an option anymore …
